how to use this class schedule

Very important note: This is the official Class Schedule. and you absolutely do need to Bookmark or Favorite this page because you will be looking at it often.

All links to assignments, due dates, and lists of weekly readings are on this page. DO NOT expect the due dates to all be on Canvas. We use Canvas only for Announcements, the Grade Book, and the Discussion Board.
This page is the central hub for all of the class content. Everything is incredibly easy to get to from this page.

Read the Lectures and ALL weekly Readings at the beginning of each week; you are expected to understand them for the Discussions and Writing Assignments that week.

If you have any questions or are unsure about something, please email me at JRCORBALLY@GMAIL.COM; (not on Canvas, and not to the school email; both are unreliable)

  • You can also find several of the readings (especially the older ones) online, in public libraries (many have free-to-borrow e-books), or in online bookstores.

Important: Please always be looking ahead. This class moves very quickly, and the readings, assignments, papers take time to do well (and you want to do well).

IMPORTANT! before the first day of the semester e-mail me at: jrcorbally@gmail.com.

you will be assigned a specific reading, along with "Trifles," based on the first letter of your last name.

WEEK 3 (2/20-2/24)

from the stories in your Discussions, and
all direct quotations need
parenthetical citations

NOTE: essays are typically due on Fridays

IMPORTANT: Be sure you are reading
very closely; about 1/3 of the

quoting (evidence) from
the literature;
all direct quotations need
parenthetical citations.

Reading:

  • There are a few short readings and some reference files to help you with your paper this week; they are in the Week 4 Readings folder on Canvas

  • There is also a REQUIRED set-up video that shows you how to set up a paper in Word. If for some reason you are not using Word, it is up to you to do a Google search on "How do I set up an MLA paper in ________?" (where that blank could be Docs or Pages or ?). Watch one or two videos AS YOU SET UP YOUR PAPER. If your paper is not in MLA-8 format, it will not be accepted.

ALSO: be sure you know How to Submit your Work; it is explained on the Writing Assignments information page, and if you DID use something like Pages to write your paper, then you will also need to do a Google search on "How do I save my .pages file as a Word document?" (or as a .pdf?). Watch a video or two.

FINAL NOTE HERE: you must quote/cite from the work you are analyzing. You will have a Works Cited entry for that work. Instructions (and sample) on how to set up a Works Cited entry from a source you read on Canvas is shown in the MLA Sample reference in this Week's Readings.

  • Then look over the samples in the Week 5 Readings folder (they will help you with this week's discussion

VERY IMPORTANT: Be sure you go back and look at the Week 5 Discussion to see if your proposal has been APPROVED.
Do not just assume that it has been; many of these typically have to be redone, and I will not grade a Research Paper that has not had its proposal APPROVED..

NOTE: if your Research Proposal
was not APPROVED yet,
you need to put a Revised Proposal
as a Reply to your original Proposal
