COW

JERSEY KOWSINSKI

Los Angeles Harbor College (where I work) does not have a dairy herd like Mt. SAC; our team name is the Seahawks, not the Bovines or the Jersey's or the Bossies.

So why the cow?

This was the first shareware graphic gif image we located (thank you Barry's Clip Art Service) to test graphics on the NET. So it's become our serendipitous WEB page mascot.

So why Jersey Kowsinski?

In our first ever contest, we had YOU send in suggestions for our cow's name; our overwhelming favorite (submitted by Pamela X) was this inspired literary pun.

Contest runners-up included:

If you would like information about another mystery cow, try BONE by Jeff Smith.

4. the contest

Now here's a bit of a hybrid: the top is the original, HTML FOR DUMMIES spawned code from 1996 showcasing my first WEB competition, Name the Cow. In the source you'll see it in all of its clunky glory (though, of course, I did put in the doctype information and the CSS styling for this bottom area in the head section).

Both the page and the competition are nostalgic favourites of mine as they showcased the first graphic I found on the web, at Barry's Clipart Server (which is still around). The BONE link above no longer goes to a COW2 page; instead, it comes down here to this picture of the mystery cow, another cow inspiration, from the Jeff Smith's indie comic BONE.
